Gerald Ford
Speakers fade out
leaders never leave
in hours of confusion.

We overlook what history has told us
and the screaming of the past
hardly wakes us from our sleep.

These nightmares grow thick;
in the creaking of our skin,
the cracks of all those present
send out the alarm-
"unite us under nothing,
our fears of fearing ourselves."

We forge on, our words stuffed back.

The President is dead,
long live the President!
